The Tradition of the Jazz Jam

The tradition of the jazz jam session go back a long ways with a variety of  protocols  that vary from session to session.  One of the most exciting and satisfying things a jazz musician can do is participate in a jam session.   Jazz jams are a great way for young musicians to develop real world  experience and for established musicians to play with old friends and  meet new players.     Jams are also a great way for artist to get discovered and pick up work. Band leaders such as myself come to jazz jams to preview potential musicians for their bands. Sort of an informal audition. David Banks, President Columbus Jazz Society
